What is LBTT?
Land and Buildings Transaction Tax (LBTT) is the tax you pay when you buy property or land in Scotland. It applies to most residential and commercial purchases over a certain price threshold.
The amount you pay depends on the purchase price, with rates increasing in bands — similar to income tax. First-time buyers may be eligible for relief on part of the tax, and if you're buying an additional property (like a second home or buy-to-let), an Additional Dwelling Supplement (ADS) may also apply.
