Land and Buildings Transaction Tax (LBTT) is the tax you pay when you buy property or land in Scotland. It applies to most residential and commercial purchases over a certain price threshold. The amount you pay depends on the purchase price, with rates increasing in bands — similar to income tax. First-time buyers may be eligible for relief on part of the tax, and if you're buying an additional property (like a second home or buy-to-let), an Additional Dwelling Supplement (ADS) may also apply.
